IADO Press Release

7/30/2010

Today the Department of Health inaugurated a nation-wide program for the [treatment and] prevention of developmental disabilities among Iraqi children, building on the department's previous efforts to increase awareness on the issue of developmental disabilities among children in Iraq. This important edict was issued from the Department of Health's headquarters by Minister of Health, Dr. Salih al-Hasanawy, where various important persons were present, ranging from ministerial secretaries, administrators and experts, in addition to the new project's work-group, composed primarily of Iraqi doctors and specialists.

Likewise, the minister met with members from the Iraqi Alliance of Disability Organizations and several families of children who suffer from developmental disabilities. The Minister addressed and answered the questions of the families in a kind and respectful manner.

In addition, a musical group from IADO put on a small performance of several traditional Iraqi songs in honor of their country and the Minister. Much appreciation and thanks go to the Minister and the Ministry of Health for initiating this project.
